Property taxes in Pennsylvania are based on millage rates set by individual municipalities and school districts. In other words, property taxes in Pennsylvania vary from one county to another, and even from one municipality to the next. The amount of property tax you will owe is based on a combination of your assessed property value (as determined by the York County Assessment Office) and the millage rates of the municipality and school district in which you live.
Property tax rates in Pennsylvania are referred to as millage rates, and they are figured in mills. One mill is equal to 1/1,000 of a dollar. Basically, for every $1,000 in taxable value, a property owner will pay $1 in taxation per mill.
The Pennsylvania Property Tax or Rent Rebate Program exists through the Commonwealth offering tax and rent rebates on school and county taxes for seniors age 65 and over, widows/widowers age 50 and older and people with disabilities age 18 and older.
To obtain an application, visit the Township Office or call 1-888-PA-TAXES or visit online at www.revenue.state.pa.us, Forms and Publications, Property Tax/Rent Rebate (Form PA1000).
